Creature power

A cheetah is the fastest animal  on the planet. He can reach speeds of over 70 miles (113 kilometers ) per hour his light body, long legs and super flexible backbone all help the cheetah cover lots of ground.  His claws and long tail help him keep his balance and traction when making high speed turns.

Food and health

Cheetahs eat gazelles, springbok, impala, and hares. A Thompson's gazelle, the cheetah's favorite food can run about 80 kilometers per hour so a cheetah is definitely faster. But a cheetah can only maintain his speed for 500 meters). If he doesn't catch the gazelle  early in the chase the gazelle will get away.

Home base

Cheetahs live mostly in open or lightly wooded sections of Africa and parts of Asia.

Danger alert

lions Kill adult and baby cheetahs if they get a chance.  That's why baby cheetahs have a gray stripe on their back that makes them look like a tough honey badger.  No one want to mess with a snarly honey badger, so the predators steer clear when they see the stripe.

Living Creature Style

Cheetahs have amazing eye power. Black stripes under their eyes allow them to scan the Savannah and see predators and prey for up to a mile (1.6 kilometers) away!
